Stay under it and your wig styles like hair and lasts 9 to 12 months. Go over it and the damage is permanent, because synthetic fiber does not grow back and cannot be repaired.

The one number that matters: 250°F / 120°C
Human hair can take a 400°F flat iron because it is protein. Synthetic fiber is a fine polymer filament — it softens, holds a new shape, and then sets as it cools. That is why heat styling works on it at all. It is also why there is a hard ceiling.
Above 250°F (120°C), the filament stops softening and starts deforming. What you get is permanent frizz, a melted, glassy texture, or fused clumps at the section you were holding. There is no wash, mask, or conditioner that reverses it.

Most flat irons and curling wands sold for human hair start at 250°F or higher and climb to 450°F. If your tool has no digital display and no setting below 300°F, it is the wrong tool for a synthetic wig — not a reason to guess.
The 2–3 second rule
Temperature is only half of it. Dwell time is the other half. Never hold heat on one spot for longer than 2 to 3 seconds. A slow pass at 240°F does more damage than a quick pass at 248°F, because heat accumulates in the filament faster than it dissipates.
Work in thin sections, keep the tool moving, and let each section cool completely before you touch it or brush it. Synthetic fiber sets its shape during cooling, not during heating — brushing a warm curl is how you lose the curl.
Which tools you can use
Straighteners, curling irons and tongs all work, as long as they hold a temperature under 250°F.
- Flat iron — best for straightening a wavy unit or flattening the crown. Thin sections, one smooth pass, no stopping.
- Curling iron or wand — wrap, count to three, release, and pin the curl to cool. Unpin only when it is cold.
- Hot rollers or flexi rods with steam — the gentlest way to reset a curl pattern, because the heat is diffuse rather than concentrated on one contact point.
- Hair dryer — cool setting only, and only for drying after a wash. Never hot air on a wet wig.
Skip heat protectant sprays made for human hair. They are built to coat a protein cuticle and mostly sit on top of synthetic filament, adding weight and dulling the shine without lowering the fiber temperature.
What heat cannot do: color
We do not recommend dyeing an IMstyle wig. Synthetic fiber will not absorb traditional hair dye — the pigment has nothing to bond to, so it either rinses out or sits on the surface and transfers onto your clothes and skin. Bleach is worse: it causes irreparable structural damage and cuts the wig's life short.

Washing: every 10 to 15 wears
Synthetic fiber does not produce oil, so it needs washing far less often than your own hair. Over-washing is the more common mistake. Wash when the fiber starts to look dull or feel heavy at the roots — for most people that lands around every 10 to 15 wears, sooner in summer or after a performance.
- Detangle dry. Brush the wig out completely before it touches water, working from the ends upward. Never brush a wet wig — wet synthetic fiber stretches and snaps.
- Cool water only. Fill a basin with cool water and add a small amount of gentle baby shampoo. Hot water is heat, and the ceiling applies here too.
- Swirl, do not scrub. Submerge the wig and swirl it gently for a minute or two. Agitation is what creates knots at the nape.
- Rinse in cool water until the water runs clear.
- Press, never wring. Squeeze the water out between your palms or a towel. Twisting the cap distorts the lace and the elastic.
- Air-dry on a wig stand. Let it dry completely in open air, away from radiators and direct sun. No blow dryer, no towel-drying by rubbing.
Do not brush again until the wig is fully dry. Curly and wavy units keep their pattern better if you leave them alone entirely and only finger-separate once dry.
Tangling: the fabric softener fix
Nearly all tangling starts in one place — the nape, where the fiber rubs against a collar, a jacket, or a seatbelt all day. Small tangles merge into large mats if you leave them, so treat them the week you notice them.
Mix fabric softener and water at roughly 1 part softener to 20 parts water in a spray bottle. Mist the tangled section, then brush it out with a wig brush starting at the ends and moving up toward the cap in short strokes. Never start at the roots and pull down — that is how a tangle becomes a knot.
Prevention is cheaper than the fix: braid or loosely tie long units before you sleep, and lift long hair out from under a coat collar rather than tucking it in.
How long a wig lasts
9 to 12 months of regular wear with proper care — and meaningfully longer if you rotate between two or more units. The nape always wears first, from clothing friction rather than from styling.
Rotation is the single highest-return habit for anyone who wears a wig daily. Two wigs alternated do not last twice as long as one; they last closer to three times as long, because each one gets recovery time out of contact with fabric.
If you wear daily, start with daily wear styles. If you perform, drag units take more heat cycles and more handling, so rotation matters more.
Glueless wear: no adhesive, ever
Every IMstyle lace front wig is glueless by design. Each cap has an adjustable elastic strap at the back and security combs — typically three, two at the sides and one at the front. Cap size is Average, 22.75 inches.
No glue, no tape, no adhesive is required for daily wear. Tighten the strap until the cap sits snug without pressure at the temples, then press the combs into your own hair or a wig grip. HD lace with bleached knots and a pre-plucked hairline is what creates the natural look — not adhesive.
Adhesives are also worth avoiding on principle: removing them takes solvent, and solvent on synthetic lace shortens the life of the exact part of the wig you paid for.
